Ode to Ovenbirds

Ovenbirds are one of my favorite signs that spring has truly arrived. They're plentiful in the woods around my home, though I hear them far more often than I see them. Their loud "teacher-teacher-teacher" song seems to come from every direction at once, becoming part of the soundtrack of the season.

When I do catch a glimpse of one, I'm always struck by its beautiful olive and ochre plumage and the bold orange stripe that runs down the center of its crown. This collection celebrates one of New England's most familiar woodland birds, inspired by both its understated beauty and the comfort of hearing its song echo through the forest each spring.
