Birds in the Meadow: Purple Finch

This Purple Finch illustration was created as part of my Birds in the Meadow calendar series - a group of artworks inspired by birds I’ve encountered with over time.

A few years ago, when I moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire, I was genuinely surprised by how many purple finches started showing up at my feeder. As a birder, it was incredibly exciting. Before that move, I had really only ever seen house finches, which look similar at first glance but are much more muted in color. Fun fact: the purple finch is the state bird of New Hampshire so it was totally appropriate to see this soon after I moved.

This mini collection grew from that original illustration and includes a small set of coordinating patterns designed to support the hero artwork. The floral scallop pattern pulls from the meadow setting, while the soft plaid adds balance and versatility.
