From Meadow to Pattern: Inspired by Bluets

Some of my favorite flowers grow right outside my house. Every spring and into summer, tiny bluets dot the meadows, and I can’t seem to stop photographing them. I’ll get right down on the ground with my camera to capture their delicate petals and cheerful yellow centers. Once you start looking closely, there’s so much to love about these little flowers.

All that time spent admiring them eventually found its way into my artwork. For my hand-illustrated bluets pattern, I scattered pale blue flowers with soft yellow centers across a deep navy background. I love how the darker backdrop lets each little bloom stand out—a piece of the meadow turned into a repeating floral design.

Here are some of my favorite photographs that inspired the pattern, along with a favorite of my dog, Bingo, running through the bluets. Apparently, we both have our own ways of enjoying them!

One of the fun parts of creating a pattern is imagining where it might end up. These mockups let me picture my bluets on everything from fabric and dresses to wallpaper, notebooks, and mugs.

You can find this design in my AmySevArts Spoonflower shop for your own creative projects. The pattern is also available for licensing—please get in touch if you’d like to use these little blooms on your products!
