The Bird Stamp Collection

While I was working on my Goldfinch & Co. collection, I began playing around with a stamp-style illustration format. I’ve always loved postage stamps — they’re small, graphic, and have that wonderful vintage, collectible feel. That format felt like a natural fit for birds: each one distinct, yet connected through framing, scale, and color.

The first twelve bird stamps were eventually brought together for a calendar, but they were always designed to stand on their own as well. Each illustration works individually, while still feeling cohesive as part of a larger set.

As a bird lover, I’ve really enjoyed continuing this series. Since finishing that original group, I’ve added more birds in the same style, and the collection keeps growing (see the King Eider and Bufflehead below as examples!). My personal “life list” — a birder term for all the birds I’ve ever seen — recently reached 230 species after a trip to Puerto Rico. I can easily imagine a world where every bird I’ve seen gets some kind of treatment in this style.

The pieces in this collection are available for licensing, and I’m always happy to connect with brands interested in working with this style of artwork.
